Book 2, Chapter Eight: Genesis, Pages 217 and 218
He sighs and runs his fingers over the embroidery – myrtle gold, serpent yellow – on his purple cloak.
“I must remember to visit home soon, once this quest is over.
Before mammia…”
He stops himself to resume his dinner –
swallows down his own anxiety over the inevitable fate of all aging parents.
He returns to the map of the End of the World.
“Anyway, I felt compelled to draft a letter to mater about my latest adventure.
The notes will help. Not far now.”
The Servant keeps mum, though not for long.
“Excuse me if I speak out of turn,” says the Servant. “I’ve heard of some… interesting stories about your mother.”
Alexander chuckles.
“Hah. No surprise. She’s too interesting for her own good sometimes…”
“And you, too”
Alexander smirks. He is even less surprised by this comment.
“Oh, those.
What have you heard?”
“Hm! I’m more keen to hear from the protagonist himself, particularly on what he knows of his genesis.”
Alexander’s eyes gleam excitedly.
“Well, if you insist…”
End of Chapter Eight.
Chapter Eight 217-218
IMO the women in Alexander’s life are just as interesting to read about as he is. His mother (Olympias), sisters (Cleopatra and Audata), wife (Roshanak) were subversive figures for their time and place. But Olympias is definitely the one that more people are fascinated by, including the Alexander Romance authors, as we shall see soon…
