    Book 1, Chapter Seven: The Ascent, Pages 135 and 136

    The chapter’s visual style is medieval European illumination. And so, the transcript’s style will complement this change.

    Come, friend mine, to this chapter of booke one.
    Thou art witness to our hero kynge brave;
    And his Servant wise and long suffering,
    As they venture forth to mysteries straunge.

    In the forest deep a tremendous sight
    Catches fast our great kynge’s observant eye.
    “Servant,” he asks, pointing at creatures high —
    Two beasts of avian face and mammals paw.
    “Pray tell, what are they, those two curious things?”

    Chapter Seven 135-136

    New chapter! New style!

    These are the first few pages in the new style, so things are gonna look a little wobbly as I figure out the best process and brushes that both nail the manuscript look and make drawing that sustainable.

    Footnotes:

    Alexander – Bodleian Library MS. Bodl. 264, (ff 1. 209 – 215) same as the Prologue

    Bucephalus – British Library Talbot Shrewsbury Royal MS 15 E VI, f. 21v

    The Servant and the donkey are just themselves. Luckily I don’t have to do much to translate his outfit to the European fashion – pillbox wool hats were on trend Renaissance era Italy. (though at one point I wanted him to have a fun Flemish chaperon).
