Book 1, Chapter Seven: The Ascent, Pages 163 and 164

    He bared his chest —
chipped by a dozen cuts and knocks and piercings of lashing spears, errant cannons and much more unimaginable.
    Evidence of his toils.

“The scars on your body I share with mine.
and my spoils, they are your spoils too!
Our labours are entwined. And I have never once abandoned you.
    And still –
you repay me with your cold feet!
    Hello! Wake up!
The rest of Asia is right there!
Who among our ancestors have gone this far? Done this much? And you, brave warriors, can only think of going home!
    The world… could be ours.”

Alexander stepped back. The storms of internal war
    brewed deeply within his heart.

    “But
if you no longer believe in your king,
    so be it.

    I will take my leave.”

Now, as the memory swims like black mud in Alexander’s mind,
Hephaestion stands at the edge of the tent,
    seeing no word
    and no response.

One more day of protest, again.

    Chapter Seven 163-164

Due to the lack of space I couldn’t give justice to Alexander’s really long tech-CEO-to-his-burned-out-team speech. But I hope I got the gist of it across.
